about us

Europdonor Foundation helps doctors in finding a suitable donor for life-saving stem cells from bone marrow. These cells are needed for stem cell treatment of life-threatening blood diseases such as leukemia. For a successful stem cell transplant it is essential that the stem cells of the donor and the recipient are sufficiently similar. If within the family no suitable stem cell donor can be found, Europdonor searches worldwide for a suitable donor - someone who is willing to donate stem cells and from whom the tissue typing is known. Only thanks to the availability of millions of potential donors it’s fortunately often possible to find a matching donor. That’s because there are millions of different tissue typings and the degree of agreement between the tissue typing of donor and patient determines the success of transplantation.

For a successful treatment of life-threatening blood diseases, we keep a record of Dutch stem cell donors, cooperate internationally with partners and do scientific research. We also provide education and information to professionals and the public. Together with Sanquin we actively recruit new donors in the fight against a number of life-threatening diseases.

Europdonor is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1988 by the enthusiastic physician and researcher Prof. Dr. Jon van Rood. He is one of the pioneers in the field of transplantation medicine in the Netherlands and saw one of the first opportunities for unrelated stem cell transplantation. To this day Europdonor profits from his counsel and support.
